“I came from a culture where food means love and celebrations always revolve around food”.
Born in the Philippines, South East Asia, I was familiar with American imported chocolate from an early age. My father worked overseas in order to provide a better standard of living for our family and having achieved my Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, it seemed only natural to follow in his footsteps.
In 2001 I was recruited to the UK and qualified as a Registered General Nurse, which is where I eventually met and married my partner, Richard. We have two sons (Joshua and Nathan) and during their formative years I gave up my profession in order to be a full time mum and homemaker.
It was during this period that I became a dedicated “foodie”. I came from a culture where food means love and celebrations always revolve around food. It is also when my real love of chocolate flourished, as an occasional indulgent guilty pleasure! When our boys reached that age where they were no longer so reliant on mum, I seized the opportunity, for the first time in well over a decade, to do something purely for myself. My dream was to open a specialist chocolate shop.
I spent months visiting many artisan chocolatiers and carefully selected my trading partners not only for their achievements of the highest accolades in the industry (including repeat Academy Chocolate Award Gold Winners) but equally important for their ethical trading commitment (my loose chocolate supplier is Certified as Fairer than Fair Trade – Raisetrade).
Having found a small shop premises in the beautiful town of Great Malvern in 2016 my journey truly began. I do not make chocolates and remain impartial and committed to ensure that I only select from the very best of the best. Quality chocolate should be an affordable luxury.
Growing up in one of the poorest regions of the World, I am truly passionate about fair trade and promoting economic and social welfare from the grass roots up. Chocolate Avenue remains proud to maintain strong links with partners who actively support these developments in countries such as Madagascar, Ghana and regions in the Caribbean. This ethos is now hardwired in our DNA.
Receiving chocolates is often associated as a gift of love. Ours are sourced with love, produced with love, prepared, packaged and presented with love. It is my great privilege and pleasure to be a part of spreading that love. So if just browsing or seeking something specific, at Chocolate Avenue customer service is paramount and I promise you’ll always be greeted with a smile, and whether you purchase or not, my aim is for you to leave with one too!… for the love of chocolate.
